Chapman Creek BridgeChapman Creek Bridge
Current Conditions Thursday, March 10, 2016

Does anyone know of Chapman creek bridge crossing and what the road conditions are like to the trailhead (upper parking lot)? The Chapman bridge has been crooked for ages and would like to know if it’s fixed and could be used.

Thanks!
Helen

Tet road down to gravelTet road down to gravel
Current Conditions Friday, March 11, 2016

No chains needed at this time. There was a group of trees down on the road they were moved off to one side but still on the road. Path is clear through them use caution as pot holes and water bars sneak up on you slow down be careful many people walk there dogs on that road. 20 kmph is fast enough. Fresh snow in the trees little ways above parking lot have fun stay safe

I would think there is much more up on the trails be prepared for changing conditions could be very cold temps at night. Road and trails could freeze and thaw in warm temps in day. With lots of fresh snow trails maybe hard to follow. Have fun stay safe.

Current Conditions Wednesday, March 16, 2016

Spent Wednesday evening up at Dakota. Road is gravel all the way to the top parking lot. There is some snow on the road in patches, however chains are not required.
There is about a foot of new snow fallen in the past few days which has a crusty layer on top. Had a beautiful snowshoe on the Balsam trail through snow laden trees and with a fantastic view of the North shore mountains and Mt baker with a waxing moon in the sky. Enjoy the peacefulness of Dakota.

Dakota-Tet TraverseDakota-Tet Traverse
Current Conditions Saturday, March 19, 2016

On Mar 18-19 a party of 4 on skis traversed from Dakota Ridge to the Tetrahedron trailhead. The Dakota road is all bare, in 2wd condition, with a couple of lumpy places where the frost is coming out. The Tetrahedron road has packed icy snow for the top 1km. AWD with winter tires or fwd with chains would be fine.

On Mar. 10, someone asked about the condition of the Chapman Creek bridge. Photo below. We skied across it, although it was a bit tricky getting onto and off the bridge. The last two people did a little damage to the snow on the bridge. I would not attempt it on foot or snowshoe without shoveling it off first. Visible in the photo is shallow, slow water just upstream of the bridge for boots-on fording. Getting onto the south bank would be awkward.

We did the Steele Creek crossing without even removing our skis. A little work shoveling snow from the west bank would create a alternative crossing.

The McNair cabin is in fine shape. There is loads of firewood with the stack still three rows deep full length. The axe has a broken handle which needs a fibreglass tape repair, or replacement. In the evening we heard snowmobiles in McNair Creek valley south of the lake, but none of them reached the lake.

We skied on every lake we came across, but I'd suggest that people on foot stay off them. Speaking of people on foot, a couple without snowshoes or skis smashed deep craters in the ski trail all the way from Edwards Cabin to the parking lot today. Thanks a lot.

A feature of the snowpack this year is deep and open streams and creeks. The few remaining snow bridges will soon melt, leaving many obstacles.

Just a few meters above the yellow gate at the winter parking lot, there's a pallet across a ditch. The pallet is missing one board, leaving a couple of nails exposed. They scratched one of my otherwise unmarred skis from end to end. I didn't find this very amusing. I used a rock to beat the nails down, and packed snow on the pallet.

Tet park infoTet park info
Current Conditions Tuesday, March 22, 2016

There is lots of great info about the Tet park on www.tetoutdoor.ca. Tells about bridges and creek crossings etc. Also great info and pics on Facebook on Tetrahedron outdoor page. If you are heading into the Tet be prepared it is not just a simple hike conditions can change fast. Trails can go soft so snowshoes or skis a must.

Note to Steve GNote to Steve G
Current Conditions Thursday, March 24, 2016

Pretty sure I was riding the only snowmobile making noise in the area on the evening of March 18. You may know how sound travels in the mountains but I'll assure you that I was well outside of the park boundaries just skirting around on the few logging roads that aren't too washed out yet. Unless you came across some tracks in the park then maybe save it next time for your campfire stories. Yes I'm loud but come on, it's a big enough world!

Current Conditions Thursday, March 24, 2016

I'm sorry that I stopped to help that couple you mentioned had messed up your trip because they wanted to go for a moonlight hike in the snow. They got stuck in their 2wd mini van so had I not intervened you may well have had fresh untracked pow pow all the way. Maybe you can start a petition to rename this the Steve G club.

Why are some snowmobilers so peevish? Why are some snowmobilers so peevish?
Current Conditions Thursday, March 24, 2016

Core, While you say my comments disclose my flawed mentality, you have no idea how your comments also display where you're coming from. I assure you, it's not pretty. To clear up confusion you've created, I made no accusation the snowmobile(s) in question had entered the park. In fact, had you read carefully, you'd see I stated the snowomobile(s) did not reach the lake. Though I dislike snowmobile noise, I did not complain about it in my earlier comment. You have incorrectly assumed what I said and reacted to your errant assumption. If you want to talk to yourself, please do it offline. And your comments about the two hikers make no sense in the context of what I described. The hikers I mentioned were in the park for several days.

Even more great advice forEven more great advice for
Current Conditions Thursday, March 24, 2016

Not only does it ruin ski tracks, Core, but you need to realize it is a very unsafe idea to go into the higher mountains in winter on foot without skis or snowshoes. People doing this have had to be rescued after a deep snowfall prevented them from walking out. And for your information, set ski tracks are not 'pow pow' (your words).
