Alert / Warning Sunday, January 31, 2016

Edwards sounded wee bit close for 18+ people for Feb 6 and 7th (especially as the lads like to play board games) so the three Dads with lads will head to Bachelors instead - head in Saturday afternoon and out Monday after lunch.

Thanks Snowman for keeping things clear for us getting in (with chains of course).

Never been to Bachelors - looks like there is no avi risk: can someone let me know the score in that regard?

Alert / Warning Wednesday, February 03, 2016

Hello,

This is a repost of a message I posted on January 31 - just want to repost because the way this bulletin board works it seems that last month's reports are not easily visible:

Hello there!

A large group of us (13) are planning on coming up to Edwards Cabin Feb 6-8. Some of us will be prepared to sleep outdoors so we can share the cabin with other fellow campers. Looking forward to a cozy evening at the cabin with lots of good food and new friends!

Cheers!
Bruce.

Tet road. Use chainsTet road. Use chains
Alert / Warning Wednesday, February 03, 2016

The road to the Tet has a thick layer of ice under fresh snow. It is crazy not to use proper chains cables chains often come apart and can rip out brake lines etc. Tow trucks won't go up there and pull you out. If you get stuck and block the road how many people are going to be trapped. If everyone used chains and spread out there tracks the road would be in great shape. Why should a volunteer snow plow driver bother to put chains on to plow the road if others feel it is safe to drive up with out chains it the ruts of last 100 cars making the road worse. This is serious I don't like walking out to get help when I am stuck because people driving on same ruts.

Group of 11 for Bachelors Feb 6-8Group of 11 for Bachelors Feb 6-8
Alert / Warning Thursday, February 04, 2016

Hello,

I posted a few days ago for a group of 13 to Edwards. We are changing plans, and now we are a group of 11, most likely heading to Bachelors Cabin.

Mr. Snowman, I heard that there is a big storm coming on Friday. I am wondering if you are planning to plough the road? Saturday morning? I have never been up Tetrahedron before. We have a Subaru with chains, and also hired a 4x4 shuttle with chains. When do you think the roads will be passable? Thank you so much by the way - I am new to this bulletin board and I noticed that you have been keeping the roads accessible. Your hard work and dedication is very much appreciated!

I will be monitoring this bulletin board regularly from now till departure.

Cheers,

Andrew Bruce Lau.

A friend and I would like to go snowshoeing in the Tetrahedron area and spend Monday 8 Feb night in a hut (ideally Mt Steele) with board games, good food and beers. Back the next day early afternoon. The only issue is: we don't have a 4x4+chains... We'll be glad to join anyone heading there, even one day in advance.
Thanks,

Slushy icey sections was 8 inches wet snow on top of ice. Many spots down to gravel on shoulders. Please Please spread your tracks out water is starting to run down tire ruts and soften and maybe wash road away. Drive on the high spots not in ruts of last 50 cars.. was 0 degrees and almost rain snow mix was trying hard to snow. Think maybe up at summer lot could have been snowing. Dress for wet trip and hope for snow. Pack extra socks and dry gear incase. Watch cross dithes as they might break through. Any low spot could be full of water. Be carefull Have fun and sahre some pics and info.

Weekend Cabin VisitorsWeekend Cabin Visitors
Current Conditions Friday, February 05, 2016

It looks like the cabins are going to be very full this weekend with lots of vehicles negotiating the road and parking spots. Please park with a thought for other vehicles, and spend your time in this beautiful park with a thought for other visitors and the many hundreds of hours of Tetrahedron Outdoor Club volunteer time it takes each year to maintain and supply these cabins. Also, our very generous volunteer plower has spent many hours making the road accessible this year - the reason so many can access the road this weekend - so please make sure you get your chains on, spread your tracks when you can, and park to maximize space for others. Without Snowman/Plow Guy the TOC would have had the road plowed ONCE this year and we'd all be facing very different and difficult driving conditions (and a longer walk to the cabins).

And if you don't already know this the TOC is entirely responsible for the upkeep of the cabins, including the supply of wood brought in by helicopter and which is approaching $6000/year. Cabin fees barely approach this cost, and the volunteer time for this yearly project is huge. Please pay your cabin fees and conserve your wood use!

I hope all visitors have an excellent time this weekend in this jewel of a park!

Alert / Warning Friday, February 05, 2016

As all the firewood has to be airlifted in it costs lots so do t load up the wood stoves and have doors open. Often when cabins have 10 people in them they almost beat themselves. Try to save the flu time and money by conserving firewood. When you can. Have fun take pics and share plow driver never gets up there so he loves to see them.

Tree was down across the road but got removed. Please spread your tire tracks out on the gravel and snow. Also back your 4x4s well off the road at the parking lot to make room and safer for others. Many 4x4s could have backed up 4-6 ft more. Be CAREFULL in parking lot very Icey and easy for cars to slide into others. Temps have just been around 0'c should be some great reports and info from trips this weekend. Hope people share pics here and Facebook etc. Do the snow dance. Get Snowzilla back.

Batchelor Creek bridge washed awayBatchelor Creek bridge washed away
Alert / Warning Monday, February 15, 2016

****BRIDGE ON BATCHELOR SUMMER ROUTE IS OUT!***
The small bridge over Batchelor Creek has been washed away and the creek is too wide and full to jump over. Visitors heading to Batchelor cabin will have to use the backdoor route from Victor's Landing as Tannis Lake is probably not safe to cross now. At the Batchelor/Edwards junction head toward Edwards. At Victor's Landing at the next road junction there's a sign pointing the way to Batchelor cabin.

Steele Creek (past Edwards) is completely open. Some parties have been able to shovel snow from the banks to make temporary snow bridges but it's likely to be a wet and tricky crossing.

The Chapman Creek bridge on the route from Edwards Cabin to McNair Cabin is damaged and must be crossed with extreme caution.

Some icey section close to lot but drive slow and smart no problem. 4 vehicles up there this morning when I dropped off 5 guys going to Steele till sunday. Hope for some great reports from people up there. Be prepared for changing conditions. Things might be hard pack now but could soften up and you could find walking in 4 ft of snow.
