Please also post info after tripsPlease also post info after trips
Sunday, October 18, 2015

It would be nice if people going to the Tet also posted info after trips instead of reservations for cabins. Conditions of trails and cabins helps people plan trips etc. please take the time to post some pics or info on trails. Soon there could be snow falling and nice to know if and where it is.

Conditions as of 2015.10.24Conditions as of 2015.10.24
Current Conditions Sunday, October 25, 2015

The road beyond the gravel pit now sports many signs barring access to vehicles without 4wd. That's fine with me.

The trails are in good shape, except as the frost comes and goes the wet spots become muddy quickly.

There is about a cord of firewood at the Edwards Cabin. Since it looks like last winter's wood, rather than a fresh supply usually delivered around now, this puzzled us. But, the bad snow year last winter probably meant few visitors, and the hot summer meant no need for fires, so probably it's left over from last winter.

There are no candles and no toilet paper at Edwards Cabin. The log book is full, thanks partly to those who use entire pages for their so-called 'artwork', and those who tear pages out. The latch on the cabin door lacks the moving parts. There were rat turds upstairs, which we swept out. A group of 5 stayed at Steele Cabin Sat. night, plus the 3 of us at Edwards.

Sunday morning we used 2 cordless hedgetrimmers and some clippers to brush out the old trail from Edwards Lake toward Mayne Lake. At first we came across clearing already done by others, and feared the whole trail was done and we'd carried the tools for nothing. But the cleared stretch didn't last long. We cleared to a little past the high point where there's a view of Panther. Plus some clearing near a 3-way trail intersection that seems to have a fork down another overgrown trail into the Chapman drainage. We don't know where this trail goes. We did about 1/4 of the whole distance between Edwards Lake and the Bachelor Cabin in 2-3 hours. Future clearing may be more efficient to work from the Bachelor end. Someone in our group lost a black trimmer blade cover along here. There are a lot of elk trails throughout the meadows and wetlands east of Mayne Lake. Enough that their trails can lead one astray off the main hiking trail. There are brand new trail signs near the Bachelor Cabin, including one pointing out the Mayne Lake trail, which is uncleared at that end.

There are about 1.5- to 2 cords of firewood at Bachelor Cabin. No candles and no logbook. There is a set of mountain bike tracks to the cabin. I wasn't aware they were allowed in the park.
