No change in road conditions since last post - it is a skating rink the last two km's. *Chains required*. Put them on before the steep hill at 7.5 km to allow for good control and easy turn around at the parking area. Raining and +1C at trailhead.

Current Conditions Tuesday, January 07, 2014

Went up to see firsthand today

Chained up just after the bridge, patchy ice until after the rock quarry. After that a solid sheet of ice to the parking lot.

Walked half way to the Bachelor turn off before switching over to skis/skins. Sheet of ice around 2' thick extends to Edwards Lake Summer Trail. Probably 2' of snow on top of ice at Victors Landing sign post. 3-4' along summer route to Edwards. Didn't go the entire way to ELC as I left my light in the truck

There was some form of precipitation falling from the sky, lots of snow falling off trees. Fresh snow was wet/heavy/slushy

I likely could have easily walked in my boots as far as I went on my skis no issues today.

Road hadn't refroze when I left around 1630 this evening.

Many Thanks Big Red for the report on the TetMany Thanks Big Red for the report on the Tet
Current Conditions Wednesday, January 08, 2014

Your detailed report helps many of us plan for trips up to tet etc. We were all hoping that with all this rain there would be tons of new snow sad to hear it did not come down as snow. I hope more people can post good and sad news from Tet trips. I was going to take a drive up to check you saved me a trip. Can't think how the water shed is going to be with out a normal snow pack. I do not think the SCRD knows how much we depend on snow pack for our water in the summer months. Take care have fun stay dry if

School Group in the Tet Jan 20-23School Group in the Tet Jan 20-23
Alert / Warning Monday, January 13, 2014

The Take a Hike Program from Vancouver will be in the Tet from Monday January 20th until Thursday morning the 23rd.
We will have 9 students and 2 staff. The night of the 20th we will be at Bachelor cabin and the 21st and 23rd we will be at Edwards. The students are grade 10-12. It is quite and energetic group and so if you are planning a romantic week up at the Tet might be best to plan your route so we do not overlap. Love this area and our students always have a great time. Thanks to all those who put so much effort into maintaining the cabins and road. Those efforts help change young peoples lives on trips like this.

Rush Hour on the Tet roadRush Hour on the Tet road
Current Conditions Friday, January 17, 2014

Friday morning 5 vehicles on the road to Tet The road is rutted down to ice last 1.5 km low clearance vehicles might have trouble. Seems everyone has been driving in the same ruts and now it is froze hard. Hard to get out of them when you try. It is to bad if tracks had been spread out early the road would be in great shape only 6-8inches at lot. temp +1'c coldest it has been in a while is -6'c Biggest problem for the road now is if you come upon another car it is hard to get out of ruts to pass etc. Snow is frozen hard shovels not do much good. Have fun

Tet road and lotTet road and lot
Current Conditions Tuesday, January 21, 2014

PLEASE POST SOME INFO AFTER YOU COME DOWN FROM TET. It is good to post what cabins you are going to so people can plan trips but how much snow and temps etc after are most helpfull. This site is not for reservations but it does let others know where people will be.

+5'c at parking lot in the Tet road is now down to 2 ruts gravel showing with in 1000ft of lot. Snow was very soft in afternoon. Some people were heading in with out snow shoes. But conditions change fast You should always have snow shoes in case. No New snow Large school group should have a report after they come out thursday or posted friday. Please engage your 4 wheel drive so as not to chew up the road. Many people are driving up in 2 wheel drive and tearing the road up on hills. Make sure you park well back and out of low spots that might pool water then freeze. 1 year a guys front tires were frozen in ice he tried chopping ice away and puntured his new snow tire.

Why are the not ploughing tetrahedron roadWhy are the not ploughing tetrahedron road
Current Conditions Wednesday, January 22, 2014

I was amazed that the road has not been ploughed at all this winter. Is it because there is not enough snow or govt cutbacks. Has the govt cut back on snowfall so they save money. Guess we are lucky there is some snow. Hope we start getting some good snow storms up there soon.

Current Conditions Saturday, January 25, 2014

Weather man keeps changing the forecast he is saying chance of flurries down here on friday Rain both thursday and friday should hopefully fall as snow up top. With our luck it will be feast or Famone. We will get none or buried in it.

Road to Dakota has some soft spots around 4km mark please spread your tracks out to prevent ruts and soft spots.
We do not need water running down tire ruts making road soft and muddy. Have fun in the sun above the fog. It is always sunny on the sunshine coast above the cloads.

Trip reportTrip report
Current Conditions Monday, January 27, 2014

The Take a Hike Program enjoyed 4 days up in the Tet last week from Monday until Thursday. Have been up there the last number of years at the same time and was amazed at how different things look without the snow cover. 7 steps heading up tot he door at Edwards whereas in the past have dug 1 or 2 steps down to the porch. The weather was beautiful and our students slept outside most nights. 2.5 feet of snow at Edwards and maybe 2 ft at Bachelor. We did not cross the lakes with a group our size for precautionary reasons. Cabins were in great shape. Road was icey near the parking lot and I can see why we are constantly reminded to spread the tracks out. Driving in the ruts was difficult and some parts of the middle section made for tricky clearance under the Subaru. All in all a great trip in a beautiful place. Thanks to those who assisted us in getting up there and giving our students a great experience. You are very much appreciated.

Dakota this morning Jan. 29Dakota this morning Jan. 29
Current Conditions Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Although we need more snow the conditions were great for a fast skate around the trails that are open in the warm sunshine. Open trails have been groomed throughout this dry period and while we are still slowly losing the snow get out and ski.

New snowNew snow
Current Conditions Thursday, January 30, 2014

there was 3 inches of new snow at noon today on Dakota. although this was not a grooming day, we were able to push our skate skis through the new stuff and utilize the hard base below. there are a few holes to watch out for and the bushes are poking their heads through in a few spots, but generally the skating was good. the hemlock trail is open to the lake and there are a few trails open to the west.
the snow on the road starts at B lot, but it was an easy 2 whl drive up and down. the temp went up from -2c to 0c while we were there, but it was still snowing rather than raining.
