Tet RoadTet Road
Current Conditions Friday, December 03, 2010

To Keep Tet road plowed and open through the Winter it is very important for anyone going up there to post road conditions on this site. Most important to know how much snow is on the road at the parking lot. If no one posts info the plow will not know to go plow. Chain up and spread your tracks out to compact the road this will help keep road driveable longer. Use chains on front axle if only have 1 set. Park your vehicle as far back as you can and pointed out and downhill slightly. Remember it could snow 2 ft overnight. Pack down a parking spot by driving back and forth moving over 1 tire width at a time. Drive slow and with HEADLIGHTS ON Be seen by others sooner. Take shovels to dig your vehicle out.
Please post info on Road conditions and trails when you come out.

Should be a Big Heavy snow year lets use the road wisely. Keep it open as long as we can.

Just read on RD facebook page road access to upper partof dakota road will be restricted access due to plowing.why don't they have the road plowed for the weekend. Hope they plow it better then last 2 years. . Dummy me I should have put the chains on no fun slidding sideways. Then end up in ditch sorry if I scared anyone took 6 hours to get my buddy to come winch me out.

got most of the trail in around the dakota ski area today was alot of work hope to try and finish the trail tomorrow we ended up on the groomed trail a couple of times will try to avoid that tomorrow. it is easier to go down hill to get a trail in . when this new trail is in it will help out the parking as the snowmoblie club will park at 4 corners as long as snow depth permits

On the road up to the parking lot, there was about 20-25cm 1/3 of the way up. Made it to parkng lot with 4*4. If going up Sat 03 recommand bring chains the temp was dropping and the road will be icy today.Skirted edwards lake did not venture out in the middle was not sure if frozen enough. I made traks to about 1/2 up steel before I had binding issues. Beautiful day blue skies great snow condition although getting heavy on the way up steel from edwards because of aspect of slope sun exposer melting snow mushroom caps dropping everywhere.

Tried to plow road but due to deep ruts and hard frozen it was very difficult -8'c at parking lot even with Mog chained and plow up I barely made it to top is was so iced up. Several times truck hit ice and tried going to ditch. Watch for Water bars and potholes hidden by snow.

Chains a must above Bridge Please try to spread tracks out to pack road down evenly to prevent Ruts.

Just a heads up that the Tetrahedron Outdoor Club is hosting a trip in to the Mt. Steele Cabin this coming weekend, December 11th & 12th. Current Conditions Monday, December 06, 2010

Looks like alot of that snow will be melting and back roads maybe be soft with frost coming out of ground. Use specail care as some people have had flat tires in the Tet. Pot holes and water bars can damage tires. What was frozen last week maybe slush this week. Did this not happen last year. It could be +5'c at Tet parking lot.
Please post any first hand reports after you come down.

'Use specail care as some people have had flat tires in the Tet. Pot holes and water bars can damage tires.'

Crushed gravel can have sharp edges that will cut into tires. I have had flats in the past I suspected were caused by freshly spread gravel on the Tetrahedron access road.

Current Conditions Friday, December 17, 2010

It is best to chain up when driving on compact snow as road is narrow and there could be lots of traffic. Use Headlights as this will help others see you sooner.
DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS SLIDE ON ANY PART OF THE ROAD. A few weeks ago we saw a Father driving his SUV behind his kids slidding down road above lot B, His vehicle started to slide and almost ran over his own kids but he steered for the ditch. Kids could get seriuosly hurt by slidding on the road.

Ambulance and Tow trucks may not come up there to help.

Things look great up there lots of snow Road in good shape but very icey from people spinning tires and snowboarding down hill. Chains Highly advised as halfway up the 6-7km hill it get slick. Looks like some 2 wheel drives must have spun and iced up the upper part. The corner above lot A was super slick and several 4x4 pick ups with no weight in back slide in corner.
Not enough snow to tobogan at LotA yet but snow builds fast Between A and B and lots faster above Lot B.
Was about 4 inches fresh snow Trails are great. Chain up it is safer and cheaper then spending hours stuck in ditch or worse. Why drive on a hill you can not stand up on. Chains make a big differance.

Not enough pulloutsNot enough pullouts
Current Conditions Sunday, December 26, 2010

Lack of pullouts on the Dakota Road caused a vehicle to become 'ditched' when two vehicles tried to pass each other. The road seems to be getting narrower with each subsequent ploughing. Please use courtesy: that is give way to traffic coming down - it is harder for them to stop especially when the road is slick.

Alert / Warning Tuesday, December 28, 2010

You might make it up with out chains but if you have to stop can you get going. Much easier to chain up on a nice level wide spot then stuck on a hill as other vehicles are slidding down towards you. The road is narrow and you will have to stop and back up at some point. What happens when you get stuck and block the road and 6 others get stuck because you stopped.
Chain up You can not even stand up on most parts of the road with out falling over.
Tow truck will cost over $350 if they will go up there at all. BCAA will not pay for it. If you do not chain up take lots of cash.

Current Conditions Wednesday, December 29, 2010

I was one of those know it all guys that did not chain up to drive up to Tet. Then on way down I just touched the breaks and we were sliding down the road, when I managed to get stopped. I then put chains on and what a differance. I could stop and back up the hill I just slide down. You can not even stand up on many parts of the road. I learned my lesson hope you all do before you get stuck or worse. Better to chain up before you get stuck.
There were cars in parking lot that were 15 ft from edge because they could not back up on the parking because of ice yet they drive down a ice covered road with no chains on following the ruts of all the cars before them.
Be a leader chain up and like Snowman says spread your tracks out. If you do not chain up make sure you take TP with you. Watch out for idiots snowboarding down the road.

Gray Creek RoadGray Creek Road
Alert / Warning Friday, December 31, 2010

There is no snow clearing on the Gray Creek Forest Service Road to access Tetrahedron Provincial Park. There is a large washout at 3km of the Gray Creek Road as a result of a recent rain event. The road is still open and passable for light cars and trucks with 4 wheel drive and chains, but it is not suitable for larger plough trucks (5 ton load limit). If you choose to drive beyond the washout, be aware that large amounts of snow may fall while you are in the park, and without snow ploughing, your vehicle could potentially get snowed in.
