Just a heads up that the wood stove at Batchelor cabin has been temporarily removed for repair work. A replacement stove will be installed as soon as possible, hopefully in less than two weeks time. In the meantime please be advised that the cabin has no wood heating until the replacement stove is installed.

McNair Woodstove Alert / Warning Sunday, October 24, 2010
Does anyone know if the McNair cabin stove has been replaced? Last time I was there I took some metal repair and tried to plug the corrosion holes at the back of the stove where it attaches to the stove pipe? If this isn't fixed it will become a fire danger.
The wood stove at Batchelor cabin has been re-installed and is working well. There are also rounds of firewood ready to be split, moved into the cabin and stacked as a result of some danger tree falling that was done earlier this fall. Anyone feeling energetic is welcome to go up anytime and help complete this task before the snow flies. The wood is bucked up and is located on the trails to the outhouse and the lake. There is a wheelbarrow up at the cabin but take a bike pump as the tire is low.

McNair Stove Current Conditions Tuesday, October 26, 2010
Thanks for the update Reynold, it really is a fire hazard, I tried but to no avail to fix it, I actually tried twice unsuccessfully, glad to hear it's being fixed, I would hate for something to happen to that cabin it's my favorite!

Climate research Current Conditions Tuesday, October 26, 2010
On the weekend of Nov.5-6-7 a team from UVIC will be conducting field work in the vicinity of mosquitos lake (near Mayne lake). They will be doing dendroclimatology (looking at tree rings) to establish historical flow regime.
They may need some help in the field to locate large specimen of yellow cedar and mountain hemlock. Unfortunally the study must take place outside of the park. You could also help by helping with cabin duties while they are out in the field.
If you think you may want to help, contact: michel_frenette@dccnet.com

Good News Sechelt weather station staying put Current Conditions Thursday, October 28, 2010
Just heard Enviro Canada will be leaveing the Sechelt weather station in place for another year or two. They were planning on removing it at end of this year but are doing a review of all weather stations which will take a couple of years. We have been lucky as this is the only weather station left over from the Olympics. It fills a big gap and is needed, in past years all Sechelt weather info was taken from Pt Atkinson in West Van. Gibsons weather is taken from there still. Sechelt is often 6'c warmer n summer and colder in winter due to the out flow from the inlet. Rainfall is much less in Sechelt then at Pt Atkinson. Lets hope it stays for ever.
