Alert / Warning Sunday, August 02, 2009

just a note to the guy who bolted a route on the coast. I have a ton of more spots to show and about 4 years of bouldering and short sport routes already established here.

Hey yeah,
I think I saw some of your routes on rockclimbing dot com or something. That sounds cool. You should come out and climb with us sometime. I'm heading up to desoto tomorrow afternoon if you're interested.

Tet parking lotTet parking lot
Current Conditions Sunday, August 23, 2009

If you are going up to the Tet maybe stop at winter lot and haul some of the firewood from winter lot to Summer lot. This will make room for more parking and get wood to upper lot for when Helicopter flies it out.
If anyone going up takes some up each time it will not be such a chore later.
Don't forget we could have snow up there in just 2 months.
We can sure use the room to park for winter.

Have fun and enjoy the back country.

Dakoat Ridge Vandahls strike againDakoat Ridge Vandahls strike again
Current Conditions Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Some stupid people have pulled the outhouse and sign at Lot B over and dragged them across the bridge.
Fairly cool up there today 6'c at Noon. Gate is closed 1000ft from top. Looks like No changes from last year. Some work was done on road around 7km so it is rough there.

Alert / Warning Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Hey Sara,

I'm not sure if scott has been up to what I'm pretty sure is the only bolted route on the coast. There might be more but i'm not sure. Anyways if you head up the north entrance of trout lake road and follow the Desoto Rock signs you should be able to find the routes i've put in. So far we only have one leadable route and one top rope route (it takes a lot of time to clean moss and money to drill bolts). The leadable climb is called 'down to the wire' and is 30m high. has 10 bolts and a top anchor consisting of two hangers attached with a chain and rap ring. We figure this route is rated a 5.7 or 5.8 depending on how tall you are (i'm over 6 feet high and find it really easy....but many shorter people have troubles) the route to the left of that one is only partially cleaned but very climbable. You have to rappel down or be lowered off of the other top anchors to this route's top anchor as we haven't put in lead bolts yet. This route is 25m high and is a little tougher than the last...we figure a 5.8 or 5.9. (we're no experts in route ratings) Check out for a list of all the spots currently being climbed on the coast. A bunch of Scott's routes are on that page. Also check out for climbing partners on the sunshine coast..we always post on this site when we're headed up there

Alert / Warning Wednesday, August 26, 2009

If you go up with your kids and don't feel comfortable with them belaying you on will need to climb around the cliff. from the bottom head to the left and follow the slightly worn path up and around. You will come across a rappel ring slung around a giant fir tree...from there the toprope anchors are about 10 feet down for down to the wire and 25 feet down for 'the lost ring'
