Hi all, can anyone tell me what current road conditions are in the tet? Also snow levels at Batchelor? Are the lakes starting to melt?

Tire Damage from Tetrahedron RoadTire Damage from Tetrahedron Road
Current Conditions Tuesday, May 05, 2009

Recently I switched my vehicle's summer and winter wheel and tire sets. I noticed the summer tires, which have been stored all winter, had a large number of pebbles stuck in the tread. Upon flicking some of them out, I found that some of them had penetrated all the way to the tires' belts. Eventually I found a total of about 20 instances of this damage on the four tires, all of which were sharp shale fragments.

The problem with these cuts is that moisture can reach the belts, and cause rust and degradation leading to tread separation and tire failure.

I was able to determine that the last trip these tires were used for last fall was to Tetrahedron. The 'Tet' road had recently been resurfaced, and it appears the gravel used was some sort of freshly crushed granite and possibly even had crushed glass in it.

It's probably a bit late now, but I'd suggest that anyone using the road either check their tires or have a tire service place do it for them. I would imagine they have a means to repair this sort of damage if it's caught soon enough.

This site works best if everyone that uses the Tet or Dakota or any other back country areas can post fresh info.
We know people are still using the Tet but but there are few reports coming. Please post info if you have been up. This helps others plan trips etc. Such things as temps, snow depths, trail conditions etc. Use it or loose it.
Be prepared for changing conditions this time of year, If you see any problems on trails , cabins or road please contact Tet outdoor club with info.

The road to Tet is free of snow all the way - we made it all the way up to the parking lot in our Toyota Echo. The trail was snow-covered starting at the parking lot, but it's quickly melting. There were a few bare patches on the way up. The people behind us reported seeing cougar tracks following our tracks, but we made it out alive!

DaDa'ota next season
Current Conditions Wednesday, May 20, 2009

I sure hope the SCRD starts planning for.next winter on Dakota now. The running of Dakota ridge should be done with more for thought and planning then in the past. The olypics will be here next Feb and we have a great winter rec site. There is a great opertunity for the Sunshine coast to be a great place to come and cross cpuntry ski.
Better planning and more user input is needed. We could have far more trails to cover more users. Hopefully the SCRD starts thinking and planning now for next season and does not wait till Oct.

Hey Gord,
There are several ways to get involved and have all your fine ideas heard. Contact Rebecca Porte, she is the Parks Planner looking after Dakota. You could come the the next Dakota advisory meeting and ask to be heard by the members of the committee that report to the board directors. You could join Dakota Nordic by contacting Patrick Mark.

You see there a lot of way that YOU can do something about it!

See you out there

Michel

looks like not a nice place to get your car washed, that sure is not around here. Makes you think twice about what is under the road.
Anyone got any reports from Tet or Dakota Ridge lately. Surely someone must have been into the tet lately.

Mosquito season next up.

There maybe be some road work going on up the Tet road soon so watch for heavy equipment Brushers and gravel trucks etc.
Have fun

Miss the snow
