Recent ReportsGreat news MOF is working on Tet road Friday, June 27, 2008 Looks like the access to Tet might improve. Keep your fingers crossed. Posted by: barry So are they going to fix the Road to Dakota this summer Saturday, June 21, 2008 During the Snow fest we saw the signs about money from paralympics for the ski area and then heard of money from island trust. The road up to parking lot looks like it is worse now then in the winter. The Ruts in the road make it almost impossible to drive a car up there at all. Are they going to fix the road so we can go up hiking this summer. What has happened to all those plans we heard about 2 years ago and having Olympic ski teams training up there. Was this just all hype to get CNI's property to go up in Value. All the BS about having a resort community up there. Who is running the show what happened to the so called 'Dakota Ridge Winter Rec Society' They had a great website with pictures and explaining what was going to be done. Are they Bust just Like CNI and other Mythes. Are we going to have to pay to ski next year or are we going to have a ghost hill like other community's. I lived in Squamish years ago when talk of a ski hill came to town. A few years later halfway through building they went Broke. Is there a plan and who knows about it, is it a big secret. Posted by: Shirly New Wave line for tide and weather for kayaking Friday, June 20, 2008 Wave Line Phone # is 740-3003 is updated every day unlike the snow phone. Posted by: Gerry Great Pictures and reports Tuesday, June 10, 2008 It makes it so much easier to plan things when good reports and pictures come on to site. Keep the great reports coming if you are up there. Posted by: Cavin Photos for prior post Tuesday, June 10, 2008 These didn't get appended for some reason. ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted by: Howard Dakota: Snow's still there but melting ... Tuesday, June 10, 2008 The road from lot B is showing lots of dirt at this point, tho it's still not possible to drive up to the first intersection, even with chains on, because of the mushy snow. There's some open water up on top, but it's still mostly snow up there, altho quite soft at this point. It was a bit tricky walking around on snowshoes, which tended to slide on the slightest slope. I'm guessing there's still 4 to 6 feet up there (but since I didn't have shovel with me, I could be off a few feet). Posted by: Howard Still snow left, but not for long... Current Conditions Monday, June 09, 2008 Went up to Dakota on Saturday on AT skis, seeking the ridge between Dakota and Tet. Didn't find it, but figured out where to go next time. There's still snow, but it's slush by the afternoon. The season's pretty much done - but what a season it was! Posted by: octagon Road work Current Conditions Monday, June 09, 2008 The SCRD should be commencing work up there by July or August. They need to wait until all the snow is gone, then wait until the notoriously boggy plateau is fairly dry. Then they'll have to give 'er shit before it gets rainy again. But the money's definitely there - they got the $235,000 ICET grant, plus money from SCRD and Terasen. The plan is to finish the road (without adding switchbacks) between Lots B and C to a 4WD standard. The contract will go to open tender sometime soon... Posted by: octagon Any one know if they are going to do road this Summer Current Conditions Monday, June 09, 2008 I had heard that the SCRD is going to rebuild the Dakota road. But then I heard that last year too. Is there anything for sure that we will be able to drive to top next Winter. I heard about all this money that was raised but will it get the road done. Is there any active user group to join to keep the Dakota Ridge area in the for front. It took 2 years to get the warm up hut built and it still is not finished. The Snow fest saw lots of people that want to go up there but we need the road this year. When are there Board meetings to discuss the Dakota Ridge area etc. We need a active group to make sure that Dakota Ridge gets proper access for all people. It should be a Family Hill. HELP get news out there What is going on.
